Excuse me while I ramble for a bit. Back in the day, being a rock climber meant that you are now apart of an exclusive climbing community where all the members appear a tad bit insane, ambitions soar and your goals for the most part feel inconceivable. This is the rock climbing life. This lifestyle is one of the most beautiful ways of life that I have ever encountered.
Climbing has slowly swept through the fabrics of these small nooks and crannies across the world. It has trickled its way into the lives of muggles becoming more and more widespread. From Alex Honnald’s Free Solo Film to being recognized as an official olympic sport, rock climbing has asserted itself into the lives of athletes of all professions to non-athletes as well.
Rock climbing gyms are emerging in cities throughout, formulating a lifestyle of fitness, culture, and perseverance. More and more outdoor routes are being put up on real rock. Professional climbers such as Sasha DiGiulian, Hazel Findley and Shauna Coxsey, have ingrained themselves as a hero in the eyes of younger woman climbers. Climbing is constantly growing and evolving without any indication of slowing down.
Climbing will always be climbing, but to me it is much more. It pushed me to look past my weaknesses, to accept vulnerabilities, become more attentive, listen to y body, breathe, and to dream big. Rock climbing is more than a sport. Climbing is a mindset. Rock climbing is life.
